The cover of this month’s issue, “Violence,” is original art by the Rev. Karl Stevens of Columbus.

Violence, 2016

About the imagery, Karl writes, “While making this image, I found myself reflecting on the past year and the way in which invisible violence, hidden and not talked about, became visible. For Christians, violence is always visible, in that we follow a savior who experienced great violence on the cross. But as we contemplate the cross, can we also contemplate, and mourn for, the violence of our current culture? I don’t think Christians should turn away from violence, or pretend that it isn’t there. Instead, we have to acknowledge it and suffer with those who are suffering.”
