Lay Worship Leader (LWL) training will be held on two Saturdays, April 28 and May 12 at St. Peter’s, Gallipolis. Attendees should plan to gather between 9:15 and 9:30 each week, and should bring the BCP they’ll use to lead Morning Prayer. The day’s work will end between 3 and 3:30 p.m.

This training is intended for people not currently licensed as Lay Worship Leaders, both first-timers and those who have allowed their licenses to lapse for a significant period (licenses are good for three years, and lapse at that time if renewal training is not done).

Each participant should register online at a cost of $20/day, or $40 for the entire training.  Those attending in person are also expected to pay the host church $10 per attendance for the cost of coffee, lunch, and other basics. Unless absence is due to a last-minute emergency, anyone who has requested lunch at the time of registration will be expected to compensate the parish for the cost of their lunch.

Requirements for the Lay Worship Leader license include three trainings:

  • Lay Worship Leader training (both weeks)
  • Safe Church training
  • Anti-Racism training

Other requirements should be completed within six months of the LWL training.  A letter requesting licensure is then sent to the bishop by the rector, vicar, or priest-in-charge. If a congregation has no clergy-in-charge, this letter should be sent by the senior warden.  The license will be sent to the congregation, not to the Lay Worship Leader. See more info

The leadership of this training is provided by the Rev. Marjorie Menaul (both weeks) and at least one experienced LWL. Questions and concerns can be directed to Marjorie at

For those desiring LWL training for whom the dates and/or location of this training don’t work, Mother Marjorie will be happy to work with you to arrange training at a more convenient time and place.  Needed: at least 8 participants, a host church, and two Saturdays (preferably two weeks apart).  Please contact her at to begin working on it together.
