These days, supply clergy can be hard to find – there aren’t enough extra priests in the diocese to make it possible for each church to celebrate the Eucharist every Sunday. All is not lost – there are other possibilities. When no priest is available, a deacon or licensed Lay Worship Leader can officiate at a service of Morning Prayer.
Training is required for the licensing of Lay Worship Leaders, and two training opportunities will be available this fall: (1) September 7 and 28 in the Cincinnati area, and (2) October 12 and 26 in the Columbus area. Information and registration forms are available on the diocesan website. The deadline to register for the September training is August 28, so don’t delay in signing up!
If neither of these is possible for you or your parish, please contact Marjorie Menaul at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a training early in 2020 at a time and place convenient for you. Even if your parish would prefer to arrange for supply clergy, it may be wise to have two or three licensed lay leaders in your parish, just in case no clergy are available when your need arises.
