The Episcopal Church at Columbus Pride
June 15 @ 10:30 am
St. John’s, Worthington will sponsor an entry into the 2019 Stonewall Columbus Pride Parade on Saturday, June 15, 2019. This is a walking contingent only (no float or car), so participants will have to be able to walk the entire time.
The parade steps off at 10:30 AM, but anyone participating should plan on meeting no later than 10 a.m. at the intersection of Park Street and Goodale Street (the southeast corner of Goodale Park) where the parade is being staged. The parade route is approximately 2 miles long, and travels down High Street to Bicentennial Park downtown. We have been assigned to Section D of the parade. We are near the front, so it is important for participants to arrive no later than 10 a.m. We expect that participants should be done by around 1:30 PM.
The Outreach and Social Justice Committee at St. John’s is covering the registration cost, so all we’re looking for is interested individuals from other Central Ohio parishes to join us and help represent the diocese.
The Columbus Pride Parade is one of the largest in the country (over 500,000 attendees in 2018), so this is a prime opportunity for us to share the church’s message of love, inclusion, and beloved community. We do have a banner that we’ll be carrying, but participants are highly encouraged to bring their own signs, flags, and t-shirts with positive messages relating to LGBTQ+ rights, marriage equality, inclusivity, etc. Rainbow colors and tie die are also highly appropriate. We are keeping a participant list, so please email email@example.com to be added to the list. Alternately, clergy or other organizers at parishes can send Brice a list of interested individuals from their church.
